The Demifae

Bite sized nuggests of cosmic power

When people tend to think of faeries, they imagine tiny human like creatures, usually winged, invariably attractive, no taller than a finger and clad in some sort of leaf costume as iconized by Peter Pan's Tinkerbell. The Demifae, who might be the source of those ideas, are something different altogether.

If the Sidhe represent the fullness of the Eternal Mother's power and the Lesser Fae represent the dreams of Danu and humanity alike, then Demifae are the bits of every day magic that make the world a magical place. They represent a purer state of magic than the Sidhe or their Lesser Fae cousins, but have a tendency to be a bit more wild. The Demifae are the magic of leaves changing colors, of frost blooming, or the crystals of snowflakes. Theirs is the magic of the wild and the minute.

Tiny Agents of Chaos

The Demifae are creatures of emotion and impulse, and as such, when they harness magic for use, it is filtered through this instinctual lens. The results can be somewhat chaotic as the magic is directed by thought but heavily influenced by needs, feeling, and desires of the moment. Many times the physical products of their magics blend with their surroundings as well. Not entirely chaotic, but certainly a tad unpredictable.

Take for example, a scenario where each type of Fae is told to sit. A Sidhe might focus their talents into creating a throne with elaborate styling that fits their personality and status, something ornate and grand that leaves no doubt who ranks highest. A Lesser Fae might conjure a simple chair that is sturdy and practical with few, if any, embellishments, completing the command with efficiency in order to move on to the business at hand. Demifae, however, would understand the need for a place to sit without focus on what it should look like so that the outcome could range from the cup of a flower to a chaise lounge or a stool with flares as intricate as the patterns in lace or as plain as simple color..whatever fits the environment, the Demifae's subconscious desire for comfort, and satisfies the general 'place to sit' criteria.

Adorable and Deadly, Hideous and Wholesome

Additionally, Demifae tend to be only a few inches tall; the nimble, flying, zippy sprites commonly envisioned by the word "fairy". They are often invisible to mortal eyes, in part because of the quickness and energy that fuels every activity, in part because of their size, and in part because their magics can be easily overlooked and ignored as some component of a biological process, cycle of nature, or visual camoflauge. Although they do not need a symbosis or seeming to interface with the real world, they can choose to grow themselves to human size for a time, but most prefer their smaller statures.
