Gods of Old walk anew

The Old Ones Still Walk The Earth

They have been there almost since the beginning of all things, shaped in tandem by the faith of humanity and the will of the Creator. Once their power was almost infinite, rivaling that of the Prime Maker in some respects. In some ways they were the darker mirror of their siblings the Archangels and in other ways they were the bright reflection. But they have been there, and they have walked among us since those early days. Now, as the Archangels return to the Earth, as humanity embraces a broader spirituality and goes seeking for ancient wisdom in faiths long since dead, the Gods of old rise once more and stand forth to shape the world that is their birthright.

It's been said by some cynical souls that mankind is a servant race, and that their natural state is to be in worship of those better than them. That is to say, the natural state of man is to worship and serve their Masters - indeed, one godling has been quoted as saying:

"Is not this simpler? Is this not your natural state? It's the unspoken truth of humanity that you crave subjugation. The bright lure of freedom diminishes your life's joy in a mad scramble for power. For identity. You were made to be ruled. In the end, you will always kneel."

As they ancients look around the world now, they find the state of things to be very suitable for their return to power, to return to the thrones they were forced to abandon ever so long ago. Humanity is a resource, and they don't intend to share one drop of faith to any of their potential rivals. But they find that they have rivals in the world, born of the adoration and worship - the time and attention given to them - by humanity. The likes of Odin and Zeus must contend now with gods bearing strange names such as Media, Social Network, and The Wire. Even as the Old Gods reach their hand out to take their thrones, these New Gods are there to intercede. War is brewing and not even the Gods know how it is going to end.
