The Hierarchy of Hell

Demonic castes are a means of organization for the otherwise chaotic hordes that inhabit Hell and look upon Earth with greedy eyes. Despite most people's conjectures of what Hell is truly like, there exists a hierarchy and an order as Demons were born of Angels after all. The Castes permitted the various Princes of Hell to organize the infernal demons into something like a military force.

Unlike angels, which primarily rule through divine appointment, demons are...well, demons. Their Castes are locked as a matter of training, as is the Sin-Brood they belong too, but every demon is always looking for a way to undermine their superiors, to climb the ladder of power and prestige in order to take on and inherit the mantle of Prince of Hell.

Commanders

Commanders are the leaders of the demonic hosts, serving as lieutenants to more powerful demons, or as the heads of special projects and tasks. Commanders have gifts and powers which allow them to control and influence other demons, increase their own personal power, as well as bind and create servants known as thralls. Regardless of their individual rank in the demonic hierarchy, Commanders are rare and are not trifled with lightly.

Reavers

Sometimes it is not only more practical, but more expedient that one man, or being, should die so that one does not need to fight an army. When that expedience needs to be put into place, Commanders call upon the Reavers. Demonic assassins and spies, the Reavers are the eyes and ears of the demonic host, slipping through and past defenses in order to locate objectives and eliminate obstacles.

Keepers

Keepers are demons that specifically focus on the punishment and torture of other souls, and which are responsible for fostering and creating cults and covens. They have an affinity for applying psychological pressure and a reputation for breaking the wills of anyone that holds still long enough for the demon to get a hold of.

Tempters

The archetypical image of the Tempter demon is the proverbial devil on your shoulder whispering suggestions. The reality is that Tempters are often people that you become fast friends with, who are always willing to lend a hand. The Tempter stands with a smile, drawing closer to you so that it can provide you with whatever it is you need. The first few times are usually free, but after that, once the hook is set firmly in their quarry's mouth, they began reeling it in.

Warriors

Warrior demons are the front line soldiers, the ones fighting against angels, the pious, and the world entire. Most demonic possessions are done by warrior demons that just want to break something within the world, to turn loose their berserk rage against the universe as bloodily and immediately as possible. They are often stereotyped by their fellow demons as blunt instruments incapable of subtlety and fit only for waging war and wallowing in blood. This stereotype is accurate, usually, but there are cunning warriors.
