The Chimera

An Animistic Perspective

The Fae and certain human mystics call it the Otherworld, but it is also known as the Astral Realm and the Spirit World. It is from this world that the Fae are returning to our physical reality.

The Fae are animists, who believe and can demonstrate to others, that every physical thing has a spirit. These spirits may not always be awake, or active, but they do exist and can be awakened. There are things however that live solely in the spirit world, having been driven from the physical world by lack of belief or the prominence of rationality and reason over the mystical and intangible. The Fae refer to the denizens of the Otherworld, both spirits and other things, as Chimera.

Chimera have access to a number of different powers known as Charms. These charms are often the reason that most Fae will bind Chimera to their service, and through these charms that Chimera can interact with reality and the Otherworld alike.

The Chimera

Chimera are spiritual beings, most of whom cannot manifest in our reality, but who can nevertheless have a considerable impact on the physical world in the hands of a knowledgeable mystic, magician, psychic, or Fae. The Chimera typically take on shapes that resemble their physical opposites, but there are Chimera that both embody and represent concepts or creatures from myth and legend which once existed in the physical world such as dragons, griffins, hippogriffs and the like.

Chimera are typically relatively static creatures, each one similar to the others of its kind, but not all chimera will stay that way. Some chimera have learned that they can grow, and as such have learned unique ways to absorb other chimera in order to increase their own strength. As these beings grow and evolve, their spiritual bodies likewise change and grow, evolving into the icon of spiritual, physical, and magical perfection: a dragon. Chimera Dragons are among the most powerful of Chimera spirits, hard to bind, and hard to restrain.
