Psychic Powers

The Power of the mind

Psychic Powers

The various psychic abilities all come with a suggested weakness. This weakness is a way to add some depth to your character and are not mandatory, but are recommended. If you have ideas for your own weaknesses, feel free to use those as well.

  • Apportation - The ability to move onself, others, and objects through space-time. Also referred to as teleportation or jumping, the psychic does not need to see where it wants to go, only know where it wishes to go.
    • Passive Power: Spatial Awareness - The psychic has an instinctive awareness of space around him, and can sense when someone bends space-time by teleporting or apporting people or objects. This sense ranges out to half a mile around him.
    • Suggested Weakness: Crowds - The characters awareness of space around him can be detrimental if the psychic finds itself surrounded by people all moving in different directions. This can overwhelm the psychics senses.
  • Astral Projection - The psychic is able to project his spirit from his body, traveling around the world at exceptional speed as a spirit being. While in this astral form the psychic cannot be sensed except by fellow psychic or others that can see into or sense the astral realm. While in this spirit body, the psychic percieves non-astral creatures and beings as ghost-like shades. The psychic can use all of its senses while projecting enabling the psychic to see, hear, smell, taste, etc whatever is going on at a given location.
    • Passive Power: Astral Sense - The psychic projects a field of psychic energy that alerts the psychic when someone is watching them and when creatures or things come near him in the astral realm. With a little bit of concentration the psychic can look into the astral realm.
    • Suggested Weakness: Fading Awareness - The psychics powers makes it sometimes easier to concentrate on the astral realm rather than the physical reality. This can be dangerous if the psychic tunes out or is distracted at a critical moment.
  • Cryokenesis - The psychic can create, maniuplate, shape and control snow and ice, or other materials in a frozen state.
    • Passive Power: Physical Resistance - The psychic is immune to the negative effects of naturally occuring cold - the psychic can walk naked in the middle of a blizzard without a problem. Magical or psychic cold does less damage than normal.
    • Suggested Weakness: Heat Susceptibility - The psychic is vulnerable to heat and fire, taking more damage from these things.
  • Cyberkenesis - The psychic can operate and control computers with the power of his mind, engaging with the device on a level that gives the psychic superhuman mastery over the daya stored on the computers, programs the computer runs, and in this day and age, access to the internet. While the psychic cannot affect the entire internet, the psychic can do just about anything it wants with the local machine, breaking passwords and stealing files and data just as easily as the psychic breathes.
    • Passive Power: Know How - The psychic has a unique gift with computers of all kinds, able to program them to do what he wants and knowing how to diagnose and repair them instinctively. This is not a formal knowledge, but an instinctive grasp of computers, computer systems,, and their associated components.
    • Suggested Weakness: Technobabble - The psychics empathy with machines sometimes erupts from its mouth when trying to relate electronic information. Instead of words, what comes out of the psychics mouth are electronic tones and discordant noise.
  • Divination - The ability to peer past the wall of tomorrow or the gates of yesterday in order to gain understanding and information of the past and of the future. Reading the future can be a tricky thing, as the future is not a set course or a fixed timeline, but is always fluctuating. Reading the past is a much more likely endeavour to be successful, as the past is fixed.
    • Passive Power: Blocked Vision - The psychic cannot read their own future, and attempts for others to do so generally fail. The psychics future is blocked, and powers which rely on the knowledge of future events cannot predict the psychic.
    • Suggested Weakness: Temporal Confusion - Sometimes the psychic loses track of where they are in the flow of time, becoming confused and relating events that might happen as having already occurred, or unable to tell when it is in the past.
  • Dowsing - Once considered the ability to find good water, this power actually encompasses a much broader range of options. The dowser, using a dowsing rod or a pendulum can locate anyone, or anything not warded or blocked off. This power can be used to locate corpses, missing persons, gold, silver, etc. but grows less effective and less precise the further away the sought after thing is. When searching for people, this power can be focused better if the psychic has something that belongs to the sought out person, and when searching for materials or other things it helps focus this power to have a sample of what is being sought.
    • Passive Power: Nowhere - The psychic is difficult to track via psychic abilities or magical spells, resisting being found unless the psychic wishes to relax this ability. Such spells and abilities affected require more energy to get through and even then will not pinpoint the psychic, limiting the seeker to "the guy is somewhere within 500 feet of this spot".
    • Suggested Weakness: Lost the Damn Thing - The psychics powers of finding and locating are potent enough that the psychic can never seem to remember where it puts objects that belong to it. The psychic is always losing their car keys, cellphones, and other mundane but important objects.
  • Electrokenesis - The ability to create, generate, channel, shape, manipulate, and control electricity. At extreme levels of power the psychic may be able to even convert its body into pure electricity and back again.
    • Passive Power: Physical Resistance - Outside of a lightning bolt, the psychic is immune to the effects of electricity , and completely immune to the effects of electricity created or manipulated with this power. Other electricity, generated from magic or powers is less damaging than normal.
    • Suggested Weakness: Conductive - The psychics body is extremely conductive to electrical current. Static electricity is constantly popping around the psychic and if the psychic isn't careful it can disable electronic items, or fry an object plugged in. Worse, the psychic can transmit this current to someone accidentally.
  • Empathic Manipulation - The psychic can manipulate and control emotions around it, adjusting attitudes or souring dispositions.
    • Passive Power: Empathic Sense - The empath can sense and feel the moods of the people around them, gauging very accurately just how strongly the emotion in question is affecting them. In some cases the psychic may even begin to feel those emotions themselves.
    • Suggested Weakness: Overwhelmed - The psychics ability to percieve and manipulate emotions is often exhausting to the psychic, who is constantly bombarded with emotions from the people around them.
  • Hydrokenesis - The ability to create, generate, channel, shape, manipulate and control water. At extreme levels of power the psychic may be able to convert its body into water and back again.
    • Passive Power: Physical Resistance - The psychic cannot be harmed by water, even to the extent of being immune to drowning. Water, no matter how hot or cold cannot hurt the psychic. Magic or psychic powers which utilize water are less damaging than normal.
    • Suggested Weakness: Thirsty - The psychic must consume approximately twice the suggested daily minimums of water in order to maintain its powers at full strength.

  • Mediumship - The psychic has the power to sense astral spirits, ghosts or other nonphysical entities when they come into the psychics presence. The medium can speak with these entities, gathering power in order to try and command the spirit or ghost to manifest itself, or simply have a conversation.
    • Passive Power: Pacify - The medium has a soothing presence on ghosts and other spirits outside of demons and angels, radiating peace and tranquility and calming angry hearts.
    • Suggested Weakness: Vessel - Medium's are easier to possess for ghosts, demons, vampires, and angels. When targeted for possession they are less capable of resisting.
  • Metaconcert - The psychic is able to link with other psychics, creating a network of psychic power that feeds and amplifies the powers of other psychics in the link, allowing the psychic to achieve truly frightening or astounding results. While psychics are engaged in this psychic link, the psychic with the metaconcert power controls and directs the assembled psychic energies and powers.
    • Passive Power: Sense Strength - The psychic can sense and accurately assess another psychics abilities and the strength of those powers.
    • Suggested Weakness: Disdain - The psychic tends to disregard the powers or capabilities of non-psychics as being lesser than their own psychic gifts.
  • Mind Control - The psychic has the power to control other peoples behaviors, compelling them to do what the psychic wishes. The stronger the psychic, the more extreme and enduring these commands can be.
    • Passive Power: Charismatic Presence - The psychic comes across to others as charming, sincere, and enchanting. People want to talk to him at parties, will buy her drinks at bars. The psychic stands out clearly in memory, and draws people like moths are drawn to a flame.
    • Suggested Weakness: The Dark Triad - The psychic has a blend of narciscism, machiavellian instinct, and psycopathy which makes the psychic both alluring and repulsive. People with these traits tend to be callous and manipulative, willing to do or say practically anything to get their way. They have an inflated view of themselves and are often shameless about self-promotion. These individuals are likely to be impulsive and may engage in dangerous behavior—in some cases, even committing crimes—without any regard for how their actions affect others.
  • Postcognition - The psychic is able to see events that happened in the past in a given location or place, witnessing the events first hand as if the psychic had been there when 'it' happened.
    • Passive Power: Sense History - The psychic can get a general sense of a person's history such as whether or not the person had a happy childhood, whether or not the person ahs lost people close to them, etc. This doesn't convey actual details of any events just along the lines of "this person has had a hard life".
    • Suggested Weakness: Echoes - The psychic can suffer from violent flashbacks of events it has witnessed, which can inflict considerable mental distress on the psychic.
  • Precognition - The psychic gets glimpses of the future. While not as far ranging as Divination this power allows the psychics to see what may happen in the next two minutes or glimpses futher along. This lack of control makes this gift frustrating but it still is undeniably useful as the psychic gets visions that pertain to it personally or loved ones close to the psychic.
    • Passive Power: Danger Sense - The psychic has an instinctive sense that warns it when it's life is in imminent danger. This power will activate about 20 seconds before the danger strikes, giving te psychic the chance to look around or get out of the way.
    • Suggested Weakness: Meh - Psychics with the ability to look into the future are often rather indifferent to the concept of putting themselves in danger, believing that their innate abilities will protect them and keep them safe. Sometimes this is true…but precognitive psychics often take risks that others would not and are rather careless with their lives.
  • Psychic Surgery - The psychic has the power to heal or harm another person with the power of their mind. This power can seal wounds, repair damaged tissue and muscle, cure diseases and illnesses. Or it can be used to inflict all of the same. The psychic cannot cure lycanthropy or vampirism.
    • Passive Power: Sense Health - The psychic has a general sense of a persons health, whether or not they suffer any medcal conditions and overall general wellbeing. The psychic must touch someone for this ability to activate.
    • Suggested Weakness: Pain Sense - Psychic healers are often times overwhelmed by the physical or emotional pain in those they are tending. When in the presence of pain, emotional or physical, the psychic could be overwhelmed by that pain and suffer it as if it were their own.
  • Psychometry - By handling an object, the psychic is able to get glimpses of who owned it, or handled it and events which occurred around the item. obtains historical memories or sensations concerning beings and objects they observe. With objects that can be handled, they gain knowledge including the makers, users, and even those who have in passing used the object, and what has been done with it.
    • Passive Power: Traceless - The psychic does not leave traces of itself on anything it oowns, uses, or touches, making the psychic impossible to be indentified with psychometry.
    • Suggested Weakness: Gloves - Many psychics with this talent choose to wear gloves or some other sort of accessory which keeps their bare skin from touching objects. This helps keep the psychic from receiving unwanted impressions.
  • Pyrokenesis - The psychic is able to create, generate, channel, shape, manipulate and control fire. At extreme levels of power, it is possible the psychic may be able to convert its body into fire and back again.
    • Passive Power: Physical Resistance - The psychic is completely immune to the effects of natural fire and heat, able to walk through a burning building without taking any injury from the flame. Magical or supernatural fire does less damage to the psychic than normal.
    • Suggested Weakness: Cold Susceptibility - The psychic is vulnerable to cold temperatures, ice and the cold in general, taking more damage from these things.
  • Telekenesis - The psychic has the ability to move objects with its mind and with considerable strength. The psychic can exert more extreme and precise amounts of force on targets that cannot normally be perceived (such as organs) and can even defy extreme forces already exerted on a target (such as the force propelling a bullet). Advanced users are able to generate more force that basic users, enough to suspend the movements of targets, immobilize them or even control their motor skills to some extent. They are able to torture others by causing internal damage, usually by crushing organs or breaking bones, which often results in the receiver convulsing and coughing up blood. A user can specifically target other parts of the body, such as the neck, allowing the user to restrict air and blood flow, and to squeeze or even break the neck of a victim. Their more extreme precision allow them to not inflict lethal or truly debilitating damage, unless they want to.
    • Passive Power: Force Perception - The psychic can perceive telekentic force in use, and potentially interfere with that force, weaking it or strengthening it as the psychic see's fit.
    • Suggested Weakness: Impulsive - The psychic has a tendency to act on impulse rather than after careful consideration and since its thoughts can become action, telekenetics tend to affect their environment without being aware of it.
  • Telemechanics - The psychic can operate and control machines with its mind, allowing the psychic to react and guide things at the speed of thought and as if the controlled machine were an extension of the psychics body.
    • Passive Power: Instinctive Knowledge - The psychic has an intuitive understanding of machines of all kinds such as cars, tractors, motorcycles, MRI's and knows how to operate the machines as well as how to repair them.
    • Suggested Weakness: Isolation - People are confusing, illogical and seemingly impossible to understand. The psychic is often confused by people and generally prefers the company of machines to humans.
  • Telepathy - The psychic is able to read the minds and thoughts of others. The psychic can communicate mind to mind, sometimes over vast distances but can only read the mind of someone the psychic can see.
    • Passive Power: Sense Minds - The psychic has the ability to sense the number of thinking beings around them. This allows the psychic to be aware when someone comes creeping up on them, as well as recognizing whether or not those minds are human, animal, or other.
    • Suggested Weakness: Overwhelmed - The psychics ability to percieve and manipulate thoughts is often exhausting to the psychic, who is constantly bombarded with the chaotic and uncontrolled thoughts from the people around them.
