The Searing Wind

From the ashes a fire shall be woken...

The Searing Wind is a group of Magi and Psychics which have embraced a rather unorthodox goal: They want to become Gods. Unlike traditionalist views of reincarnation required to attain divinity and satisfy one’s Karma or Dharma, the Searing Wind believes it can attain Godhood in this life, in this incarnation. It intends to do this through the destruction and absorption of demonic souls and angelic graces, believing that the two extremes will allow their souls to grasp Divinity. Once their soul has grasped its own Divinity, they will Ascend.

History

The Searing Wind traces its origins back thousands of years to the Hindu synthesis of various older religions practiced in India and Southeast Asia. Initially the sect was dedicated to the destruction of demons, which they name rakshasas and the veneration of the celestial beings known as Deva and Devi which are now believed to be angels by the sect.

In 32 CE one of the sect’s leading mystics, Gashtaham, experienced a powerful vision indicating that the sect should shift its focus from eliminating demons and worshipping angels, to seeking to become both more demonic and more angelic. The vision was described as the path to Godhood in this life and incarnation instead of waiting over multiple cycles of Samsara. Gashtaham was vicious in his desire to bring about this reality, and the schism of the sect was declared with violent struggles. In the end of those struggles, the Righteous Searing Wind and the Inspired Searing Wind were able to come to an accord that removed the need for violence. The sect would continue to hunt demons and destroy them, but always with the goal of learning from their twisted souls about the process that broke them. Deva and Devi were removed as concepts to be worshipped and instead were held as objects of envy and respect.

The sect found balance between the two extremes and then spent considerable time investigating and uncovering the secrets of Enochian magic and the tools and techniques of binding and summoning demons and angels alike. While demons were plentiful, angels however were harder to come by, so much of their knowledge about angels comes from demons.

Purpose & Goals

  • The Destruction of Demons
    • The Searing Wind believes that demons are corrupted souls which have lost their path to Godhood and as such should be removed from their current incarnation in the hopes of finding a wiser path after their eventual rebirth. They do not bargain with demons, they do not deal with demons. When they come across demons in the world, they will do everything in their power to kill them, body and soul. They are the foremost demon hunters in the world.
  • Mastery of Angels and the Heavens
    • The Searing Wind believes its destiny is to ascend into Godhood, but in order to do so they must somehow transubstantiate or meld their own souls with the souls of demons and angels alike. This path they are on might be considered a Left-Hand Path, for their ultimate goal is to become their own Divinity and create their own universes.

Ranks & Hierarchy

  • Grandmaster - The Grandmaster is the leader of the entire sect and is responsible for disseminating lore relevant to the goals of the sect. Additionally, the Grandmaster is responsible for fostering, guiding, and encouraging enlightenment and physical and spiritual perfection.
    • Masters - Masters tend to operate as administrators over large sections of territory. Sometimes it is a city's worth of territory and other times as large as a country depending on the strength of the sect in any given locale.
      • Brother/Sister - The rank of most members of the Searing Wind, these are individuals that typically work alone, for enlightenment is a path that is best pursued individually rather than by committee.

The sect is not a truly global enterprise, but its agents go just about everywhere in the world.

Benefits of Membership

As the foremost demon hunters in the world, the Searing Wind can train aspiring magi in Enochian magic that might prove sufficient enough to contain and compel even Princes of Hell and Archangels.

Because the sect believes in physical and spiritual balance, not only can an initiate learn more modest techniques of magic such as Yoga and the Mudras, but also can learn armed and unarmed fighting arts.

Current Affairs

The sudden resurgence in angelic visitations to the world, along with an increase in demonic activity, is viewed as a sign that the time is near where the ritual required to absorb demonic souls and angelic graces will be completed and that their hour of ascension draws nigh.
