Hunters

The Old Way

Traditional hunters have decided not to work with law enforcement of any stripe and as a general rule do not believe that monsters should remain in the world with the rest of humanity. Most consider monsters to be disgusting aberrations or twisted mutations, fit only to be hunted down and exterminated like so much pests even if it means breaking a few laws. Because of this fact, they are often looked down on by RPIT agents, but they remain a vital part of confronting the supernatural world. It is from Hunters that most innovations regarding how to neutralize a supernatural critter come from, and it's from Hunters that the rest of the world learned the skills necessary to take a supernatural creature down. Despite this fact, most view the traditional Hunter as a dying breed.

Life on the Fringes

Despite their status as outsiders, traditional Hunters have been pioneers in combining old methods with new technology. It's from the Hunters that we get things like angel blade bullets, shotgun shells with holy water or rock salt.

Most traditional Hunters operate as loners, and the few that do not, operate as small teams of 2 to 3. In part, this is because Hunters tend to be paranoid, but also it's an effective way of ensuring that collateral damage is kept at a minimum. Many Hunters do not have a single place to live, as they move throughout the country looking for cases and protecting the people. They live on the move, and because of it, they have few belongings which allows them to move easily and quickly. However, they can have a house, but they do not spend too much time in them, and do not try to act friendly towards their neighbors. Most Hunters also know each other, at least by reputation if nothing else.

Hunters tend to have skill sets frowned on by LEO's such as: lock picking, breaking into security systems, computer hacking, disguised conning, carjacking, and gaining an 'advantageous purchase'. They are versed with how police, fire departments, and various government agencies (FBI, CDC) typically operate and conduct investigations, and know how to both impersonate and evade them effectively. Most of these methods are used to gather information about the cases they're working on, though methods can differ between supernatural Hunters.

Hunters are skilled fighters, proficient with firearms, shotguns, and melee weapons they might acquire. When weapons are scarce and they are in a dangerous situation, they use hand-to-hand combat or whatever is available as a weapon. They also appear to be proficient trackers and possess prudent tactical skills as well as an instinctive ability to "read" behavioral characteristics and manipulate people. In addition, they need to be virtuosos of escape, evasion and silent movement, when the situation requires subtlety and stealth, such as surprise attacks.
