Once upon a time, a long, long time ago, there was a terrible disease, a terrible disease. It ravaged through Europe, killing first one out of four people, then 2 out of four, and finally somewhere around every three out of four people was lying dead in the street. The rich and the powerful, the priests and the laity, nobles and commoners all were struck down.

It was so much fun!

Of course, I was already dead by then, but it was still very, very interesting to me. By that time I’d already been dead for a couple of centuries of course. But even among the undead, it was surprising how many vampires were quite beside themselves with fear. I wasn’t troubled by the plague to be honest, in fact, I was fascinated by it and more than a few poor souls found themselves strapped to be my table so that I could better understand the progression of the disease, how it acted and how it might be spread.

Of course, now you and we all understand the germs, and the washing hands thing. But back then it was a very different story.

So, doubtless you have many questions about me, but none of them really matter. No, now don't protest, we both know what you really want. You really want to know what happens after you die, what happens to the soul..of course there is such a thing as a soul!
