Gaius Nihilus

Gaius Nihilus

"It’s not easy being born into wealth and power, especially when you are heir to a dynasty which stretches back into the distant reaches of the history of not one but two worlds. First, Earth was lost to our people, then Alera was, and as is recorded in the Grand Library, we returned to Earth and made yet another new home for us. This was part of the legacy I had inherited, drilled into my head since I first learned to speak and was deemed old enough to gain an education.

I am not like my first-born Brother. I am not carefully balanced between wisdom and valor and I have, as my father said, a detestable weakness of character. I am not like my second born brother, dedicated to scholarly pursuits and advancing the knowledge of Aleran and Non-Aleran alike. Nor am I like my sweet sister, a prize to be wedded off to make a suitable alliance by marriage to another powerful Aleran house.

No. I am the black sheep, the drunkard, the taker of chemicals, dedicated to only my own pleasure and lacking in a sense of responsibility and propriety. So my father said, and such is his wisdom that few could gainsay him.

This because I enjoy wine. This because I enjoy cocaine, and ecstasy, and sex.

This because I refused to wed a woman my father had deemed suitable. This because I find the non-Aleran world to be more fascinating than the Aleran.

So, when it became clear to me that as the last-born son of a dynasty, my presence was neither desired, nor required, I left Alera and went to the United States. Officially, I was there as an emissary of the nation of Alera, but other than a periodic phone call from the State Department, I am left to my own affairs, which is just how I like it.

After a year of traipsing around Vegas and doing fairly well at the tables, I decided it was time to see what the Rocky Mountains were like. So here I am, coming to Denver."

The Past & the Present

Gaius Nihilus is the name of aggravation that the young prince was awarded by his father, and it is not his proper name. Despite this time, the Prince is not very nihilistic at all, but is rather a servant to his senses, and an explorer of hedonistic pleasures. However, this should be mistaken for cowardice or weakness. Even without his Furycrafting, Gaius Nihilus has been trained as a Prince, and Aleran nobility holds to a much older idea of what nobility entails and should not be underrestimated.

Nihilus is not the official Ambassador of Alera to the United States, but his status as a member of the royal family grants him the equivalent of Diplomatic Immunity, and he can call upon the Ambassador (Kalarus Novus Bonum) at need. Despite this privilege, he prefers - as does the ambassador - to not involve the apparatus of government to his dealings. He goes where he see's fit, and travels without an official retinue other, keeping only his lone Singulare, Antillus Argentum.
